(Talking about Where are we Now)"Utterly pointless single. Ten years hiatus to ask where are we now? Presumably it is diffucult for Bowie to have a sense of the world from his flat in Manhattan. Which is expensive and needs financing via gullible and undiscerning´╗┐ consumers that buy/listen to anything he belches.
I've listened to it one more time: utterly toothless. A faded copy of Thursdays Child."_Guy slandering David Bowie

"YOUR AN ASSHOLE anyone who is a fan to David Bowie has a reason i've loved him sense´╗┐ i was 5 because he's awesome and unique and does what his heart tells him to do he's a little odd but that's what makes us fans love him he even more he does what others don't want to do and says "Screw it I don't care what people think I'm me" because DB is that awesome next time you want to slander a huge music singer that has sold more records over the years that proves his fans love adore him don't do it!"_Me

I can see why some people reacted negatively to the song on first listening, for it is quite meek and subtle, and it can be accused of name dropping things from established Bowie lore, but it is a very unfair critique. I don't know quite how to argue against this view, but the song is certainly not toothless or pointless. Actually, Where are We Now is a simple yet beautiful tune, and it shows Bowie in one of the most vulnerable states we've ever seen him; he surrendres in this song. I find it rather powerful, especially on the 3rd listening, and it is a sign of genious when a simple song is made powerful, delivering its message without frills.

What I am very curious about is how the album will turn out. Bowie has had a tendency to release 1st singles that aren't necessarily representative for the album as a whole, and it shall be interesting to see what fallows Where are We Now Smile
