Does anyone else's family find David strange? My brother is always saying Oh Bowie is gay why do you listen to Bowie? You should listen to real rock music. Sometime he is joking but it does bother me. My dad's always saying Oh he's so girlish is he gay? I'm always saying it doesn't matter even if he is which he isn't he makes fabulous music. Does anyone else's family do this?

Well, my mother knows who he is and after quite an intensive talk with me I think she respects him at the very least. My father doesn't really know who he is and arguably I don't really talk about stuff like my favorite singer with him so it doesn't really matter to me :/

The problem is my friends I guess... Whenever I say something that mildly annoys them or anything they take a swing at Bowie and I'm so tired of them treating him as a punching bag of some sort when they don't even know about him properly D: One boy thinks he's just a minor semi-famous singer, and another thinks he's a random musical actor... And nobody listens when I try to tell them who he is! I've gotten into at least two fights with one friend or another because they insulted him and I think I've turned into something of a social recluse now Sad

I mean, goodness... This country has gone to the dogs. I'm getting out of Korea and going to America or the U.K. or wherever where people actually KNOW WHO HE IS. I hate this country. Grr.

Actually I wish the kids in our school poked fun at THAT (his appearance) because that would mean they actually KNOW even a little about him and they're not just acting stupid and prejudiced! And yes I agree with you, I don't care if he's sexually attracted to women or men or both or cars or the Empire State Building. His music has touched me in a unique way, he amazes me and I've never seen anyone, any singer, quite like him. And he was always sexy as hell Toung So I don't care what other people say.

Well I live in America and kids my age don't really know about him at all I really don't know anyone who even knows anything about him and it seems as if I can't really get along with people who don't have similair interests. My mother knows about him and doesn't really mind him I think she likes a few songs actually but no one else around me really knows anything of his music or that and it really bothers me. Everytime I say something about Bowie they act like that's all I talk about....

I've noticed that tends to be a result of becoming a Bowie fan - you become obsessive-compulsive about him Toung How old are you, if you don't mind me asking? I'm fifteen and that, along with the fact that I live in Asia, means I've met maybe only about three people who know anything about him at all. One being my mother. It makes me horribly lonely, and I don't say half of the DB references I think of but he's still most of what I think about :/

Oh well, we younger Bowie fans gotta stick together, no? xP if it weren't for the Internet and this forum I reckon I would have gone insane around two weeks into my liking Bowie...

Laughing Aha Haha Thank you ! I totally agree, but i can't stop laughing (because of the Empire State Building part) !

My mother's boyfriend (the one who almost killed db in one of my dreams Sad ) doesn't like Bowie at all. He says db is just half a gay and a drug-addict and say his music is too commercial (which is stupid because he listens to 'music' which is often a lot more commercial...). He also says that he doesn't like bisexual persons... Sad He doen't know i am bi too...

However, my mother really like Bowie because she finds him sexy Rolling Eyes

Haha I find Bowie pretty sexy too. I also have to deal with issues of my family being homophobic they're always talking about how they hate gay people and they don't agree with the lifestyle I'm not gay myself but I see how their comments can offend people and I don't like it. I'm sorry about your family not being supportive and yeah my brother thinks he's too commercial too. Maybe his 80s stuff was a little commercial for some people his 70s stuff is the total opposite of being commercial.

Hi, ZiggyBowieFan01,

My girlfriend is quite opposed to db, which is more than a bit anoying, but then again, I don't like her musick, so there... :-p

To not like db because "he's gey" (which he is not, but fair enough) or because he dress(ed) funny, well that's plain stupid. And Bowie is not very commercial at all - he've done some mainstream stuff (particularly in the 80s), but he has also been very cuting edge through the 70s and late 90s/early2000s, and, if you compare Bowie to, say the Rolling Stones or Elton John (just to pick on some of db's friends), they are A LOT more commercial than him.

And yeah, us young Bowie fans need to stick together *caugh* Toung
Good to see yet another young person finding the way to Bowie Smile

In my circle of mates, I have one friend who loves Bowie's work. The rest like his well known songs and respect him as an inspirational artist of our time...but you won't find any albums in their collection.

The 'but he is gay' line really annoys me. Regardless of his orientation how can sexuality effect the music output? People need to get into the 21st century and stop being so ignorant and narrow minded.

It reminds me of my interest in Placebo. Watch any video on YouTube by them and I gurantee you will see a derogatory line about Brian Molko somewhere - regardless of how good the song is.

Yeah I always say who cares if they're gay, straight, ugly, or beautiful if the person has talent. It's like liking a band cause the lead singer is hot. Yeah he's hot but does he/she have any talent? Who cares if the person is gay just listen to the music.
